In conjunction with Zero Discrimination Day, students at Templer Park International School Rawang (TPIS) took part in meaningful reflection activities designed to nurture empathy, kindness, and fairness across our school community.

🌿 Lower Secondary: Fairness Reflection Journal

Our Lower Secondary students participated in a Fairness Reflection Journal activity. They were encouraged to think deeply about moments when they experienced or witnessed unfair treatment.

Some students wrote about being left out of group work. Others reflected on being judged before being understood. A few shared stories of misunderstanding between friends that led to hurt feelings.

They explored:

  • What happened?
Was someone excluded? Was there unequal treatment? Was a voice ignored?
  • How did they feel?
Many described feeling sad, frustrated, embarrassed, or invisible. Writing these emotions down helped them recognise how powerful unfairness can be.
  • What could have been done better?
Students suggested listening first, including everyone, speaking kindly, and standing up for someone who is being treated unfairly.

Through honest reflection, they began to see situations from different perspectives. The goal was not just to recall difficult moments, but to understand how empathy can change outcomes. When students pause to consider how others feel, they become more mindful, compassionate individuals.

It was inspiring to witness their maturity in acknowledging that fairness is not just about rules — it is about respect and understanding.

💌 Primary: A Secret Letter of Appreciation

Our Primary students took a different, but equally meaningful approach. They wrote secret appreciation letters to a friend or teacher.

Each letter contained a positive message — words of gratitude, encouragement, and recognition. Some thanked their teachers for being patient and caring. Others told their friends how much they appreciated their kindness or sense of humour.

The joy came not only from writing the letters, but from knowing that someone would receive a heartfelt surprise. Small words, when sincere, can make a big difference.

🌎 Growing a Culture of Kindness

Zero Discrimination Day at TPIS was more than just an activity — it was a reminder that fairness starts with awareness, and empathy begins with reflection.

By encouraging our students to reflect on unfair treatment and express appreciation for others, we are shaping a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard.

Because at TPIS, kindness is not just taught — it is practised every day. 💛
